Free Softball Clinic
Goulding Park Minor Softball also offers for registered players, of all ages, except the Tyke Division a free softball clinic, which teaches children the basic fundamentals of softball, such as throwing, catching, etc., depending on the division the child. A partner is required. This is clinic starts in October until April. Once your child is registered he/she may start immediately in the clinic.
HOW TEAMS ARE DETERMINED
The first week of play, is actually an evaluation week. The first week there will be 4 groups for each division, for evaluation purposes only, the children are randomly put into these groups and evaluated based on the elements of softball for that division and rated by a number. Then 2 members of the Board, not involved in the rating, look at the numbers of the children and put the teams together based on division, keeping in mind pitchers for the divisions.
It is one park 2 diamonds, therefore car-pooling is a non-issue during the season, unless the children are siblings or children of coaches. The second week is still an evaluation week where the convenors have the opportunity to ensure that the teams are balanced. The only difference is that these are now teams and balanced by averages, so movement is more difficult. One of the convenors duties is to ensure that the division is balanced so he/she may up to 3-4 weeks make changes in the best interest of the division.
Parent Volunteers Needed
The Goulding Minor Softball Board of Directors is a small committee of 7 members plus 3. We are a not-for profit organization. We give our time and dedication to your children. Some of us don't even have children playing anymore. We have been volunteering on the board for as little as 2 years up to 26 years.
We are asking parents to please step forward and volunteer to help. If you're not available for the season then please consider helping during the pre-season when most of the work is done. We hold one meeting a month In January, February and March. In April and May we increase the meetings to two times a month, to every other week and finally once a week.
The time will come when we the current and older members will eventually stop volunteering. We need you to continue the league's commitment to our community.
Please let Zubin, Trish or Rachel know if you're interested in joining forces with us.
Thank you for your time.
